Obituary / Life Tribute
Alfreda Hollis Luckie was born on December 29, 1956, in Houston, Texas, and peacefully entered eternal rest on January 14, 2026.
A proud Houstonian through and through, Alfreda attended Fairchild Elementary, Attucks Middle School, and graduated from Worthing Senior High School, Class of 1975, where she was honored as “Miss Congeniality.” She later continued her educational journey as an alumna of Texas Southern University, carrying herself with grace, intelligence, and pride.
Alfreda was truly the first — the first daughter, the first graduate, the first to become a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a woman who climbed every step with strength, building a life of stability and excellence through her professional work with HL&P and MW Kellough Oil, earning respect as she rose through corporate ranks.
Known lovingly as “Big Sis,” Alfreda was a source of guidance, protection, and unconditional love. She was strong, loyal, always giving, and she carried her family with a heart wide enough for everyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt Hollis (2020) and Ida Hollis (2024); her husband, Lovie Lee Luckie; and her brothers, Elmer Ray Hollis, Ronnie Hollis, Ronald Hollis, and Leroy Hollis.
She leaves to cherish her precious legacy:
Her children, Yvonne Hollis Cobb and Derrick Dewayne Sanders;
Grandchildren, Demarcus Hollis and Adriana Scallion;
Great-grandchildren, Jordan Hollis and Cari Murray.
She is also survived by her siblings:
Joyce Hollis, Myrtle Jones, Mary Hollis, Sandra Hollis, Jeanette Hollis, and Richard Hollis,
along with a host of beloved cousins, 18 nieces and nephews, 28 great-nieces and great-nephews, extended family, in-laws, lifelong friends, and colleagues.
Alfreda loved deeply — her family, gardening, entertaining, and making people feel at home.
And above all, she will be remembered for one simple truth:
She loved everybody.
